I did a post over on a GB thread about this but it was cub-locked for reasons I don't understand. Any way here's my take on the upcoming season. What's yours?
Moffat's dazzling scripty plot-wank opener: Semi-Excited Toby Whithouse's two parter: Optimistic Mathieson and Moffat's two parter: Excited Catherine Tregenna's one: semi-wildcard writer What she turned in for Torchwood was four straightforward sci-fi concepts with interesting execution and some unique twists.Actually, I think she's got a better track record than most of them. Harness's two parter: Low expectations Gatiss's one: Low expectations Sarah Dollard's one: Wild card- I'm glad to see someone new on the roster at least. Moffat's dazzling scripty plot-wank finale: Expectations are "Christmas Special" low
Moffat's dazzling scripty plot-wank opener: I'm excited if the rumours are true. Toby Whithouse's two parter: Also optimistic, but slightly cautious. I wasn't mad on Mercy or the vampires. Mathieson and Moffat's two parter: Should be good. Catherine Tregenna's one: ...nah. Harness's two parter: I suspect we will be pleased, but that's only a suspicion. Gatiss's one: Who knows? Either good enough fun or a bit annoying. Sarah Dollard's one: No. Not at all. When people say they'd be like more women writing, they mean Barbara Clegg, not some jobber who's written daytime soaps and Merlin. Having said that, Clegg wrote episodes of Crossroads so... who knows? Moffat's dazzling scripty plot-wank finale: Good, if the rumours are true. Christmas Special (which will come very soon after the finale): Who knows. I liked the last one a lot and the first one enough and hated all the others with a passion.

I've kind of come around to Toby Whithouse somewhat. While Vampires of Venice wasn't really a favorite for me, the TARDIS team sits down and decides on a plan and then executes it. As simple as that sounds, it's getting to be quite rare in Doctor Who. More often the plot drags the characters around like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride with out much input from them. Anyway, I'm curious to see what he'll do with a two parter. I feel like maybe he could do a good involving tale.
