I just read a Radio Times puff-piece about how Tennant and Smith as 'annoyed' that River Song is in the upcoming special.
I don't usually read these kinds of things, and the more I read the more incredulous I became. I am now convinced that the only way I keep watching this series is by blotting out most of the surrounding promotional activity, and if I read any more I will give up on such a piss poor, inane, empty headed enterprise. No wonder people revile it so much. That's why the old series, even when it was shit, is better than the current one.

Jon Pertwee vs Vincent Price. Who is the hero, and who the villain? This battle could cost the Earth!
There's this Canadian show I started watching called Lost Girl. It's about this lady that turns out to be a succubus and discovers a whole secret world of magic people and gets caught up in their struggles. It's kind of dumb, but really fun and creative. Even when it's terrible it's kind of charming. Anyway I was looking up some actor to see what else they were in and stumbled across the fandom- yikes. It's almost completely divided into which relationship on the show they're in to. It's really Icky. They don't even use the same forum. The ones who want the main character to have sex with the werewolf have their own forum, there's one for the lesbian doctor, one for the Valkyrie, and probably others. It was a herculean effort to go back and watch the fun little show and not keep thinking about the icky fan stuff.
All the razzmatazz around a show is just marketing. It's best ignored if it is putting you off. Just forget about it and watch the thing itself and take it on its own terms. It's like letting a shit movie trailer put you of the movie. Although, now you've mentioned it, I'm interested to see what the two boys said.
As for fans, I don't take them seriously at all, recipe fucking company excluded of course. If fans of Who, or indeed any drama, were allowed write the show it would be an absolute fucking disaster*. I'm not exactly a stranger to online forum reviews. Some are very insulting, others are very encouraging. I enjoy all of it in a weird way, but the only stuff I take seriously is the stuff that genuinely attempts to engage with the material - for good or bad. I can afford to read reviews of my work because its just short movies online or whatever. If I was running a big show, ...fuck that. I'd just get on with my vision, do the best I can and hope others bring decent criticism to my attention so I can improve.
*The only exception to this is grapple. Those idiots need to listen to their fans.
