Return of Meglos
Meglos pressed down onto his command center, triggering the poisonous gas to fill Central City’s streets.
“Oh, Doctor, you thought you could best me yet again – but you did not account for my tertiary destabilizer reconvening the occipital distributor!” Meglos boasted.
The Doctor, aghast, watched as the poor citizens of the city clutched at their throats. Beside him, Jamie took Victoria into his shoulders so as to not witness the horror before them.
“You’ve gone too far this time, Meglos,” Doctor Who said. “When shall you realize evildoing will never prevail?”
The plant laughed at the time-travelers, his plan having played out exactly as it had been envisaged.
“You see, Doctor Who, it was never you I was really going after. It was little Bobby and Jenny on the street, playing ball together – if I just go after them, rather than vengeance on your, then I shall really have earned my comeuppance.”
“Multiple-times filled, I should trust.” The voice from the back of the room was none other than Doctor Who’s old nemesis and onetime tennis partner, The Master. “I too have worked with Meglos to defeat you, one and for all.”
“Who’s this, Doctor?” Jamie asked.
“He’s the Doctor’s greatest enemy, the Master, the greatest force of malevolence in the entire universe.” Victoria explained, as Jamie had his earlier encounters with the rogue erased from his memory by Katherine Hepburn on their previous adventure.
“Yes, and Mr. McCrimmon, you are my next target!” The Master removed his trademark grappling gun from his pocket, and used it to pull Jamie towards him and Meglos. He pushed him over the side of the railing, holding onto one hand as the Doctor’s companion hovered perilously close to the molten acid Meglos kept in his laboratory.
“Meglos, please!” The Doctor said weakly. He took the jade from his pocket, and placed it in front of the sentient cactus. “There is the data-store with all of the information you want.”
“Excellent, excellent.” Meglos began processing the information. “Yes, yes… River Song… The Time War… John and Gillian… yes…”
But something went wrong, as Meglos’ circuits began to spark. “No, no, what is happening?”
The Master, sensing things going wrong, immediately let go of Jamie to plummet to his death whilst making a break for it.
“We have to stop him, Doctor!” Victoria said.
“Chase after him! I’ll take care of Meglos.”
Victoria ran down the corridor, following the Master outside to the streets of Central City. The Master jumped into his Aston Martin and quickly sped off, and so Victoria hailed down a passing BMW and knocked the driver out cold, commandeering the vehicle to pursue the evil time lord.
The Master, seeing Victoria’s car gaining on him, began firing his machine gun out the side of the window. “You’ll never catch me alive, Victoria!”
Back aboard the now flying airship, the Doctor had improbably rescued Jamie through one method or another. Holding Jamie on the floor, the Doctor just had time to make sure his companion had survived before turning around to face Meglos, for what he hoped would be the last time.
“I’ve had enough of this, Meglos. It’s always the same.”
“I’m sick of this, too, Doctor.” Meglos said. “I think I’ll win this time, though.”
Suddenly, the computers around the room suddenly began to beep and boop with frenetic energy as the test tubes filled with various floral substances and fluids began to boil; they were all feeding into a gigantic robotic body! It whirred to life as Meglos’ consciousness poured into it.
The Doctor cracked his knuckles. It was going to be a long fight.
Victoria, back on the streets below, side-slammed the Master’s car. The bearded menace similarly played nasty, and having run out of ammunition, slammed back. The two approached a rising bridge at increasing speed.
Meglos had trained for this day. The Doctor, no stranger to a fight, put up his dukes, but it was in vain; he was picked up and thrown to the window, cracking it. Meglos raised up his left arm, a minigun, and fired at the Doctor, barely grazing him. The Doctor whooped in pain as a plethora of bullets ripped through him, though none causing serious enough injury.
Seeing the bridge before them, both the Master and Victoria jumped out of their seats at the last moment as their cars went over the gap straight into the Thames. Having taken after her mentor, Victoria immediately entered a fighting stance as the two began a fist-fight. They traded uppercuts and jabs, both gasping and wheezing for air as the serum in the air took hold of their immune systems.
Meglos had, for all intents and purposes, won. He, in his gigantic metal body, walked forward to the Doctor, nearly lifeless on the edge of the airship as what used to be London burned on below.
“It always ends the same.” The Doctor muttered under his breath. Meglos raised his other hand, a mace, to crush the Doctor’s head in.
Just then, Jamie just pushed Meglos right over the edge with a little nudge, and he fell to the ground.
“Oh, thank you Jamie. Two scoops of Vanilla for you tonight.” The Doctor said, relieved as he passed out.
The fistfight between the Master and Victoria was a draw – both had the same skillset, and both had severely wounded the other.
They stepped away from one another as they both fell to the ground. Victoria tried to search her pockets to find the antidote, but it was no use; she was a goner. The Master thought about his children, on the planet Karn, and hoped he would somehow see them again. He was then crushed by the falling Meglos from above.
Victoria smiled at this.
Six years later, she awoke from her coma with the Doctor and Jamie at her side. Both the Master and Meglos had been stopped for the final time – though they would be encountered again by these travelers due to the mysteries of time-travel, this was their final and ultimate deaths. They would go off travelling again, next visiting the dreaded ice planet Pilton.
