I'm starting a thread to honour the companions that so many would rather forget. Yes, I'm talking about the ones that were either left to die or murdered outright by the Doctor. No one minds about Adric, but some of the others were a real loss and their fates should not be forgotten when the Doctor's moral character is brought into question.
I'll start with Nelly. Fun loving and curious, Nelly is now known as the 'proto-Jo'. Nelly arrived after Liz, but only lasted for eight minutes of her single episode tenure before dying at the big brown hands of the third Doctor. The third Doctor's rage was ignited when Nelly raised the sensitive topic of his hair. 'It's lovely, my nan has hair just like it,' were poor Nelly's last words. Even the Master looked a tad horrified as he watched Nelly's throttling from the TARDIS monitor.
Then, the third Doctor met Jo and it was his infatuation with her that restored the bouffant terrible's sense of 'mercy'. He would not kill a companion again for at least three seasons.
Nelly Waddington, 1970 - 1971.
Does anyone else want to salute one of those we've lost to the Harold Shipman of time and space?

Even when the Doctor Who is dead, he still exerts his murderous ways from beyond the gravy. I vividly recall that episode 'Hands of the Doctor' where the Doctor's Daughter (Peter Davison in a wig) becomes possessed by the spirit of the Doctor when she gazes into the Metebelis crystal and this leads her to murder whatever young strumpet happens to be knocking around.

Jon Pertwee vs Vincent Price. Who is the hero, and who the villain? This battle could cost the Earth!

I remember that one. Appalling. I know it did well in the AI ratings and all that, but I thought it was horrific stuff.
Bronty Parker would have been a great companion if Troughton hadn't killed her and used one of her knuckles as a pea in his referee's whistle. He could have just bought another whistle, or even found one in the TARDIS. Either way, he didn't need to kill her for a knuckle, he could have just taken a finger and abandoned her on a planet.
