I promised weeks ago, after Drac's post about this recipe (p.122 in The Holy Book), to make this. So it was the obvious decision when prompted to take part in the fab new badge-winning campaign. Plus, finally using a recipe from the Good Book makes me feel like I have been initiated at last into the religion.
My ingredients: sadly not bought from the Co-Op (Booths and B&M Bargains, plus an oblong tin from Poundland. Cos i'm classy, like)
Exactly as stated in the Holy Book. I used an online conversion table to turn the Farenheit temp to Celsius and lovingly measured out the Oz and Cups and Tea/tablespoons (but was so excited and nervous my wobbly hands may have made some slight errors, but only very slight... I am a neophyte after all!).
I had my smooth mixture and was very taken with the colour, it reminded me of a pair of large hands...
into the oven it went.
The folloiwng 30 minutes were magical and strange.... odd noises came from within, a crackling and popping and gurgling that was akin to the weird noises experienced by The Great One when he investigated the goings-on at the Stahlman drilling project. What forces was I about to unleash?
The result, was: WACKY CAKE!!
i was surprised at how deliciously gooey it was (i was expecting something spongey for some reason) with gorgeously crinkly bits round the sides. As i ate spoonful after spoonful (purely for research purposes) i was transported away to a magical realm of alchemical chocolatey/almost caramel-y goodness. I felt myself shooting off to a new phase of my evolution as a human being, sensations and tastes and universal truths now unlocked to my previously hampered perception. It was as if The Great One Himself was patting me on the back and saying, "Welcome, my dear boy. Now why don't you get out of that ridiculous garb."
In short: I am a New Fanny. And it's all thanks to JPRB.
